Functions of the Council
The Council shall be the sole registering authority of all persons required to be registered or licensed as teachers under this Act and shall have the following functions-
- To establish and maintain, in such form as it thinks fit, a Register of Teachers and a Roll of Licensed teachers
- To take part in all matters affecting the education and training of teachers
- To advise the Minister on any matter falling within the scope of this Act
- To promote professional and ethical standards in the teaching profession
- To communicate to the Minister any information acquired by the Council relating to matters of education in general and teacher education in particular
